Description
Grape Varieties: Βlack Koudoura of Kymi (Mandilaria). Kymi & Afrati – Evia.
With respect to his home land and love for red varieties Apostolos Mountrichas revives the ancient variety of Euboea – Mavrokountoura of Kymi. It is a clone of the Aegean Mandilaria whose grapes are smaller, darker with velvet tannins.
TASTING NOTES
Avantis Mavrokoudoura has an opaque ruby colour. The wine shows a pronounced nose, intensity of black fruit and spice and aromas such as jam, vanilla, coffee and oak. On the palate it is full, round with balanced acidity, fine-grained high level tannins and long finish.
PAIRINGS
Avantis Mavrokoudoura pairs well with roast beef with spices and red wine sauce to match the wine’s own spicy and jammy profile, grilled red meats, feather game and traditional Greek meat dishes, such as kokoras in wine sauce and meatballs. Mavrokoudoura also accompanies well rich slow-cooked stews, vegetarian and tomato based dishes, cold cuts and aged cheeses like Graviera or Parmigiano-Reggiano.
Aging: 10 years.
Unfiltered and unstabilized wine. Any amount of sediment in the bottle is normal. It is recommended to decant it into a carafe 1 hour before consumption.
