San Guido’s Sassicaia production was an event that was to change the destiny of Bolgheri, opening a new path in Italian oenology. Luigi Veronelli was the first to realise the greatness and importance of this wine.

The 1968 vintage saw the debut of Sassicaia, a courageous wine that at the time, broke away from the standard way of making Tuscan Wine.
The wine is named after the stony soil which it comes from, and, by its nature, is destined to go far.

San Guido Sassicaia Bolgheri is made mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon. This great wine was a fundamental change in the Tuscan and Piedmont tradition of Sangiovese and Nebbiolo, respectively. The innovative decision to plant this variety in Tenuta San Guido was due in part to Mario Incisa’s resemblance between Tuscany and Graves in Bordeaux.

TASTING NOTES
Sassicaia, is an elegant, generally full-bodied with complex character wine. It typically reveals aromas of dark cherries and other red and black fruits.  It also shows notes of chocolate, toasted dried fruit, notes of vanilla and hints of Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it’s characterized by smooth tannins, well-integrated acidity, and a long, deep finish, sometimes with a noticeable mineral texture.

PAIRINGS
